Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back! The Summer seems to have flown by and it has been a busy start in Year 6 with our new ‘Magic and Mystery’ topics. This is the topic the children chose during our transition week and has been led by the interests of the children. So far we have been doing some artwork based on the book Malala’s Magic Pencil and have been solving a range of codes in Computing. The children have amazed me with their attitude to their learning and how they have worked together in the class.
This term our PE days are Thursday and Friday. For each day we ask that the children come dressed in their PE kit, including their house-coloured T shirt. Thursday will be outdoor PE so they will need to be suitably dressed for outdoors including tracksuit bottoms and jumper as the weather turns colder. On a Friday it will be indoor PE, starting with Gymnastics. For this the children must have shorts or leggings (not tracksuit bottoms) but may wear tracksuit bottoms over the top during the day if it is cold.
As you are already aware, we have booked to take the Y6 children to Plas Dol Y Moch on October 10th – 14th. Thank you to those parents who have made their payments over the Summer ready for this. As we are the only school at the centre during this time, there are further spaces available if you have not yet requested one. Please speak to one of the Y6 team if you would like further information.
This year your child is expected to continue with their reading at home. This is a vital part of their education and we expect children to read three times a week for at least 15 minutes. This must be recorded in their reading diary and once must be with an adult. These will be checked on a Monday morning.
Please remember to come and speak to any member of the year 6 team if you have any questions or queries, there will always be one of us on the gate in the morning and afternoon. We look forward to working with you over the coming year.
Mrs Noone, Mrs Taylor
& Miss Joyce.
