Year 1

Robin Class

I am Mrs Haywood and I am going to be one of your child’s Year One teachers from September 2022. As you know, each class has an animal name and your child’s class name is Robin.

I have been a teacher for 8 years and have always taught in Early Years and Year One. I started at Stoke in 2020 and have loved working with the amazing children and staff I have met so far. I cannot wait to meet all of you and your wonderful children and work with them to help them be the best they can be! In Year One we aim to deliver an exciting and challenging curriculum whilst embedding children’s love of learning and key learning behaviours.

The LSA in Robin class is the amazing Miss Russell. She has been at Stoke for a year and has always worked in Year One. We are super lucky to have her in Robin class!

This week the children have been amazing! Our topic is pirates, which will continue in September. The children have created maps, been on a treasure hunt, written sentences and have been wonderful mathematicians. We have focused on the value ‘challenge’ this week. The children have been challenging themselves to try new things and explore new environments. The children have worked together to think of class rules and how we can follow them, as well as thinking about their hopes and dreams for the future.

Children will need to bring a water bottle with them to school filled with water. They will also need to bring a PE kit with them with their coloured team t-shirt, shorts/jogging bottoms and pumps/trainers. Lastly, a book bag as your children will be given books and work to take home with them. Please ensure all items above are named.

If you ever have any questions the classroom door is always open at home time for a chat. We hope you have a wonderful summer and look forward to welcoming you back in September.

Woodpecker Class

I wanted to take this chance to introduce myself. My name is Miss Joyce, I am going to be your child’s new teacher in September. I started working at Stoke in September, working in year 1. I will be starting my second-year teaching with your lovely children, and I cannot wait!

This week the children have been amazing! Our topic this week has been Pirates. The children have created maps, been on a treasure hunt, written some fantastic stories and been wonderful mathematicians. We have focused on the value ‘challenge’ this week, the children have been challenging themselves to try new things and explore new environments. Our class is called the Woodpecker class. The children have worked together to think of class rules and how we can follow them, as well as thinking about their hopes and dreams for the future.

When the children return in September, we will be continuing our Pirate theme, before moving onto a brand-new topic ‘Incredible me’ focusing on superheroes and real-life heroes. Have you got a favourite superhero?

In year 1 we have a fantastic team. Working with me in woodpecker class, we have a wonderful LSA called Mrs Brown. She is a fantastic member of Stoke and the children are very lucky to have her.

Children will need to bring a named water bottle with them to school filled with water. They will also need to bring a PE kit with them with their coloured team t-shirt, shorts/jogging bottoms and pumps/trainers. Lastly, a book bag as your children will be given books and work to take home with them.

I can’t wait to see you all in September and hear all about your amazing summer holidays!
