LUNCHTIME ARRANGEMENTS FOR YEAR 3 (SEPTEMBER 2022)

Under the Universal Free School Meals scheme all children in Reception to Year 2 are entitled to a free school meal at lunchtime. However, this scheme stops at the end of Year 2. Therefore, as children enter Year 3 in September school meals may need to be paid for.   The cost currently is £2.40 per day which is excellent value for money. Potentially a packed lunch could cost as much as £2.50 per day.

• They meet all the Government Nutritional Standards  
• Salad, fresh fruit and hot vegetables are available with every meal.
• A vegetarian option is always available
• Children can help themselves to as much fresh salad and bread as they want.
• Chilled water, semi-skimmed milk and fruit juices are always available.
• Puddings contain healthy ingredients like fruit and oats.
• Deep fried food, salt, sugar and manufactured meat products are restricted.

If children do not wish to have a school meal they can bring a packed lunch.  This should be in a secure named container/packed lunch bag.  A drink should be provided in a non-breakable beaker.  No sweets or fizzy drinks are allowed instead we encourage lots of fruit, vegetables and water.  For more information on what a healthy packed lunch is visit www.childrensfoodtrust.org.uk
