Dear Parents,

Following the government announcement that all schools will be reopened to all children from Monday 8th March onwards, we wanted to write to you to say how excited we all are to be able to welcome the children back in to school from next Monday again after what feels like a very long period of online learning.

Just as before Christmas, we continually look at the situation in school and update our risk assessment to ensure that we are maintaining the safest environment in school for all of our children and our staff team. If you do have any concerns, please continue to contact us through the home schooling email addresses that we have been using throughout the lockdown.

In order to support social distancing, Year 1 and 2 children will continue to enter school through the middle gates which lead on to the playground. Gates are opened at 8:45am so please ensure children do not arrive before this time as this can cause congestion on the pavements. At the end of the day the children will be escorted back to this gate by staff. Year 1 will leave at 3pm and Year 2 at 3:15pm to help reduce congestion at the gate.

In order to maintain safety and cleanliness in school we remind you that:

  • bags are only bought into school if absolutely necessary and then these are kept to book bag size at the largest;
  • lunchboxes and water bottles are named clearly on the outside to prevent children handling other children’s belongings. Cups cannot be provided so please ensure your child has a water bottle in school;
  • PE kits should be brought in and stored at school where possible.  Please ensure that these are sent in at the start of next week ready for PE lessons which for Year 1 will be on Monday and Wednesday and Year 2 will be on Wednesday.  Year 2 will be going swimming on a Monday (starting on Monday 15th March – more details will follow.  Please ensure that PE bags are labelled clearly on the outside – and all items of PE kit and school uniform should be labelled to to minimise handling by other children / adults.

We will begin to send out reading books and diaries again as quickly as possible so please ensure that any reading books that went home before Christmas are returned as quickly as possible.

Children must return to school in the correct school uniform from Monday 8th March.  However, we will be launching our new house system during the first two weeks.  Your children have all been placed in a colour team – we will remind them which team they are in.  On the first two Fridays, children may come to school dressed in something of this colour – it could be a whole outfit or just a top of this colour or some socks for example if they have items in this colour at home.  Please do not buy new clothes for them.

We want to reassure you that we have been working hard as a staff team to put measures in place to support the children both academically and emotionally on their return. We ask that parents support with this by ensuring your child is back in a good waking/sleeping/working routine prior to our return and support with any work sent home for them to do.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with myself or your child’s class teacher.

Yours faithfully

Mrs Brooker and the KS1 team
