Dear Parents,

Following the government announcement that all schools will be reopened to all children on Monday 8th March, I wanted to write to you and your child, welcoming you back to school. The staff team are really looking forward to seeing the children again after what feels like a very long period of online learning.

As before Christmas, we continue to look at the situation in school and update our risk assessment to ensure that we are bringing the children back into the safest possible environment. We are aware that there may be some anxieties both from the children and yourselves about the return and we are keen to speak to you to alleviate any concerns. You can continue to contact us through the home-schooling email addresses that we have been using throughout the lockdown.

To support social distancing, Year 5 and 6 children will continue to enter school through the small staff car park at the top of Briton Road. Please ensure children do not arrive before 8:45am as this causes congestion on the pavements. At the end of the day the children will be escorted back to this gate by staff. Year 5 will leave at 3:10pm and Year 6 at 3:15pm to help reduce congestion at the gate.

To maintain safety and cleanliness in school we remind you of the following:

  • no bags are to be brought into school unless necessary and then only bags able to fit into the 30cm x 30cm cloakroom cubes with their coat.
  • no pencil cases are to be brought into school – we will provide everything needed.
  • lunchboxes and water bottles are named clearly on the outside to prevent children handling other children’s belongings. Cups cannot be provided so please ensure your child has a water bottle in school.
  • PE kits remain at home. Children will continue to come to school dressed in their PE kit on PE days.

Children must return to school in the correct school uniform from Monday 8th March.  However, we will be launching our new house system during the first two weeks.  Your children have all been placed in a colour team – we will remind them which team they are in.  On the first two Fridays, children may come to school dressed in something of this colour – it could be a whole outfit or just a top of this colour or some socks for example if they have items in this colour at home.  Please do not buy new clothes for them.

We appreciate that you will be concerned about the academic progress your child will make this year and want to reassure you that we have been working hard as a staff team to put measures in place to support the children both academically and emotionally on their return. We ask that you support with this by ensuring your child is back in a good waking/sleeping/working routine prior to our return and support with any work sent home for them to do.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with a member of the Year 6 team.

Kind Regards

Mrs V Noone
