12th September 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back! The Summer seems to have flown by and it has been a busy start in Year 3 with our new ‘Weird but Wonderful World’ topic. This is the topic the children started during our transition week and has been led by the interests of the children so it will be slightly different for both classes. We hope the children will share what they have been learning in class with you over the next few weeks.

This term our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday. Children need to bring their PE kits in to school on a Monday and take it home to be washed on a Friday. As of this year, all children need to have their house-coloured t-shirt for their PE lessons. If you have not yet purchased one, please speak to your child’s class teacher or the office team. Wednesday will be outdoor PE so they will need to be suitably dressed for outdoors including tracksuit bottoms and jumper as the weather turns colder. On a Thursday it will be indoor PE, starting with Gymnastics. For this the children must have shorts or leggings (not tracksuit bottoms) and their house-coloured t-shirt.

The children have already shown great enthusiasm towards their learning, and I have been really impressed with their attitudes towards their work. It is important this year that your children are provided with as many opportunities as possible, both at home and school, to practise the key skills we are teaching them daily to allow them to securely embed concepts that will be vital to them making progress as they continue with their education. If you are unsure how you can support your child at home, please catch me on the gate at the end of the school day.

All children have now been issued with a home reading book. It is expected that ALL children are reading with an adult at least 3 times a week, and this needs to be recorded in their reading diary.

Please remember to come and speak to any member of the year 3 team if you have any questions or queries, there will always be one of us on the gate in the morning and afternoon. We look forward to working with you over the coming year.

Yours Sincerely

Year 3 Squirrel Class
