Dear Parents / Carers

We are writing to inform you that, as part of our statutory P.S.H.E. curriculum, we will be delivering our Relationship and Sex Education curriculum this term.  As in previous years, we will be following the Christopher Winters scheme of work which has been recommended by the Department of Education.  The RSE curriculum is now statutory, and all parents were invited via email to take part in the consultation process and those responses were taken into consideration when finalising the new policy.

The RSE programme is based on the needs of the children in the school with learning outcomes appropriate to pupils’ age, ability, and level of maturity. The curriculum will be firmly embedded within the broader PSHE, Citizenship, and Science curricula. Pupils will be helped to understand difference and to respect themselves and others.

Parents’ right to withdraw

Parents do not have the right to withdraw their children from relationships education. At Stoke Primary we do not teach non-statutory / non-science components of sex education with RSE. Parents/Carers who have concerns about the teaching of RSE are encouraged to discuss this with the class teacher.

The policy and an overview of what will be taught in each year can be found on the school website. Please contact your child’s class teacher if you have any concerns regarding the delivery of RSE in school.

Many thanks for your continued support.

Kind Regards

Mrs Paula Maguire

Assistant Head Teacher
