Dear Parents and Carers,
We just wanted to say a warm welcome back to all the Year 5 children and their families. It has been a busy start to Year 5 with our ‘Magic’ topic. The children were all really engaged in the topic during the transition week, and they have continued their enthusiasm into the beginning of this term. In fact, we have been really impressed with their overall attitude to learning since their return to school and with their eagerness to face the challenges which are ahead. We have spoken to the children about our aims, and they know that we have high expectations for them.
Our reading over the next couple of weeks is also around magic. Our class book is The Miraculous Journey by Edward Tulane and this week during Reading we have been looking at an extract from The Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton. All children will also have now been allocated a reading book to take home. The expectation is that they read at home at least three times a week and that their diary is noted accordingly (we will be checking these regularly). Spelling sheets will also be sent home on a Monday and the children will be tested on the words each fortnight.
As you will be aware our PE days are on a Tuesday and Friday this year. For each PE day we ask that the children come dressed in their PE kit, including their house-coloured T shirt. Friday will be outdoor PE so they will need to be suitably dressed for outdoors including tracksuit bottoms and jumper as the weather turns colder. On a Tuesday it will be indoor PE, starting with Gymnastics. For this the children must have shorts or leggings (not tracksuit bottoms) but may wear tracksuit bottoms over the top during the day if it is cold.
Please remember to come and speak to any member of the Year 5 team if you have any questions or queries, there will always be one of us on the gate in the morning and afternoon. We look forward to working with you over the coming year.
