18th December 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we come to the end of what seems to have been an incredibly long Autumn Term, I wanted to write to you to share some information about what we have been doing in school and plans for the future.

This week we have tried to keep some level of Christmas normality for the children with organising the Movie night, Christmas Fayre and other festive activities. The children have enjoyed these alongside our topic lessons and it has been a great week.

Despite the challenges that COVID has caused, the children and staff have worked hard this term to ensure that learning they have missed has been caught up on and that children are making progress. We have been embarking on a new and exciting topic over the last two weeks all about ‘The Circus’. The children loved their session with a circus entertainer, learning how to juggle and spin plates and it was a great way to start off the topic. We have then used the topic of ‘The Circus’ to develop their reading, writing, maths and topic skills and they have thoroughly enjoyed this whilst maintaining the focus on their learning in the run up to Christmas.

After Christmas, we will be starting new topics with the children and we are working hard as a staff team to make them engaging for all children and trying to link with the characteristics of effective learning. We will share more about this in the Spring term.  Please continue to support your child with work sent home. Your child will be having weekly spellings and homework to do at home as well as bringing their school reading books home daily to be reading at least 3 times per week. Without the time and support to do these at home, your child will not make the accelerated progress they need to make this year.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child, you will always find a member of the year 5/6 team on the gate in the morning and all teachers on the gate after school. We appreciate that some conversations may be more personal in nature and should you wish to discuss something in private, we will do our upmost to accommodate this either at the time or with a follow up meeting. Alternatively, please email if you cannot speak to an adult in person.

I hope you have a safe and enjoyable Christmas holiday and look forward to welcoming the children back on Tuesday 5th January.

Kind regards

Mrs V Noone
