Dear parents and carers,

We are writing to keep you up to date with what is happening to support you with home learning in Year One. It is a challenging time for all of us and we want to help you as much as we can.

The Year One page on the school website is updated daily with the latest information so please remember to check this regularly. You will be aware that there are daily lessons for Phonics, Writing and Maths put on the website and it is expected that you find time to do these lessons with your child each day.  There is also other topic related work, which you will find on the curriculum page of our year group page.  If there are any issues with accessing lessons or completing work, please let us know. A small portion of work in each of these subjects should be emailed to the following email address each week:

Year1-HomeSchooling@stoke.coventry.sch.uk

Phonics – All children should be accessing the phase 5 lessons to learn the new sounds led by Mrs Brown daily.  Those of you that are also receiving phonics interventions from Miss Kennedy or Mrs Burns do not need to complete the work for phase 5 but you do also need to access the phonics lessons Mrs Burns’ has put on the website.

Writing – Please ensure that your child is accessing these lessons daily.  Our theme is traditional tales and we are currently focusing on the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.

Maths – We are learning about place value and number bonds at the moment (I hope that you have been able to pick up your resource pack from school).

Topic – We are looking at materials through the story of The Three Little Pigs.

In addition, we also have a bedtime stories section on our year group page, which includes lots of lovely stories read by staff.  There will also be new work added to Purplemash each Monday, as we know lots of children enjoy doing this work.

In recognition of the hard work the children are completing at home we are choosing children each week to receive a special certificate, which will be sent home to them.  Last week we were really impressed with some of the work we received and certificates were sent out to Paris, Ruth and Harrison who all worked exceptionally hard.  Well done to them.

Thank you for your support with your child’s education and please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with.

Yours sincerely

The Year One team
