Dear Parents and Children of Year 6,

I hope you are all doing well and staying safe and healthy during the lockdown. I wanted to update you with what is going to happen this half term with year 6. As you will be aware , Year 6 are one of the year groups the government is allowing schools to bring back but due to having to have such small groups split amongst the staff and rooms in school we are only able to have a very small number of year 6 children returning to start with. I have been making calls over the last few days to those parents of children we feel would benefit the most from coming back initially, with the hope that as restrictions lift we will be able to welcome more of the children back.

Our plan for the next half term is to make sure that all children, whether they are back in school or remaining at home, are fully prepared for their imminent transition to Secondary school. Secondary schools will be ready to support the children with what they have missed academically so our focus for the next seven weeks will be on ensuring that children are confident and ready to start on their next journey. Each week the children will be set a series of tasks to complete based around transition. These can be done either on the downloadable workbook (which will be put in the class page), by hand in their home learning book or on the computer/tablet using Purple Mash or another program of their choice. When the children then return to school, they will be asked to bring this with them as the work will continue in school so please ensure that it is kept safe.

I am also hoping to run some online face to face sessions with the children with a transition focus in the coming weeks. For this to happen, children will need a parent to sign them into ‘Zoom’ (on a laptop, mobile, or tablet) and they will be able to take part in a group conversation, led by myself, with other children going to the same Secondary school as them. In order to set this up and to give your permission please can you email me at transition@stoke.coventry.sch.uk with your child’s name from the email address that we can send the session invite to.
