Monday 2nd March 2020

Dear Parents / Carers

This half term, our topic is ‘Castles’.  We will be learning about what they look like, why they were built and how they have changed over time.

We will also be learning about King Harold and William the Conqueror and in the week beginning 16th March we will be using drama to retell the story of the battle of Hastings.  On Friday 20th March, the children will be allowed to dress up as knights, soldiers etc and use props to help their retelling of this historical event.  More information will follow nearer the time.

However, following the enthusiasm that we had from the children (and your support) towards our polar animals last half term, we thought it would be great if your children wanted to make some homemade props to bring in for our role play.  These items can be brought in on or before Friday 20th  March.

Some suggested items that might be made are:  shields, spears, axes, swords, bows and arrows or helmets.  We have included some pictures to support with ideas overleaf.

We will of course be sharing lots of photos of our Battle of Hastings

re-enactment.

Yours faithfully,

Year 2 team
