To help us understand why the ancient Egyptians carried out the process of mummification, we stepped into the shoes of ancient embalmers and mummified tomatoes! Following each step carefully, we prepared the tomatoes by scooping out the insides, removing all moisture and covering them in a mixture of salt and bicarbonate. Once sealed in containers, our mummified tomatoes will be observed over the next two weeks. We've also kept a control tomato, which hasn't been mummified to compare with our preserved ones. We're excited to see how the experiment unfolds 🍅
