Anglo-Saxon Day

Year 4 were fully immersed in the life of the Anglo-Saxons during a special themed day. Dressed as Anglo-Saxons, the children made traditional bread using simple ingredients that would have been available at the time. They crafted intricate brooches, carved their names into clay using runes and made coin pouches by applying their sewing skills recognising the hard work and practical skills Anglo-Saxons needed in everyday life.

They explored the importance of settlements by designing their own, inspired by previous learning about key features such as a great hall, farmland and protective fences. In the afternoon, they prepared for battle between kingdoms, reflecting the constant power struggles of Anglo-Saxon Britain. It was a fantastic day filled with historical discovery!
