9th October 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

What another brilliant week!

Year 2 – Coombe Abbey Adventure
Year 2 enjoyed a wonderful trip to Coombe Abbey this week as part of their geography learning. The children explored the natural environment, developing their geographical vocabulary and gathering ideas for their writing back in class. Travelling by public transport made the day even more exciting! All staff commented on how exemplary the children’s behaviour was throughout the trip – they were a real credit to the school.

Year 4 – Ashmolean Museum Visit
Today, Year 4 headed off to the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford as part of their fascinating Ancient Egypt topic. The children were amazed by the artefacts and displays, particularly the real-life mummies! The trip brought their classroom learning to life and sparked lots of curiosity.

A Huge Thank You to Am from Lords Furniture!
We would like to say a big thank you to Am from Lords Furniture on Walsgrave Road for kindly donating carpet samples to our school. These are going to make our Aviary space so warm and cosy – we can’t wait for the children to enjoy the newly improved area.

Important Safety Notice – Spy Dogs, Spy Pups, and Spy Cat Books
We have been made aware that several titles in the Spy Dogs, Spy Pups and Spy Cat series by Andrew Cope contain a web link at the back of the book that no longer directs readers to information about the stories. Unfortunately, the link has been compromised and now leads to inappropriate and unsafe material.

We have removed all copies of these books from our school library and classroom book corners. We strongly advise you to remove them immediately.

Reading at Stoke
Reading is central to all learning at Stoke, and we continue to encourage every child to read at least four times each week at home. Please make sure these reads are logged on BoomReader so that we can celebrate and track your child’s progress. Thank you for your ongoing support – reading regularly really does make a big difference!

Reminder – Teacher Training Days
A reminder that school will be closed to all pupils tomorrow (Friday 10th October) and Monday 13th October for teacher training days. We look forward to seeing all children back in school on Tuesday 14th October.
