3rd October 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

What another brilliant week!

EYFS Phonics Meeting

Thank you to those who came along to the EYFS Phonics Meeting on Monday. It was lovely to welcome so many of you into school and to share how we teach early reading. We hope you found it helpful and supportive in understanding how you can help your child at home.

Year 1 – Family Fun Afternoon

What a fantastic afternoon we had on Thursday at the Year 1 Family Fun event! With games, food, and a wonderful turnout, it was amazing to see our school community come together. The children were full of smiles, and the atmosphere was brilliant. A huge thank you to everyone who helped to make the afternoon such a success.

Year 3 – Axe Making Instructions

As part of their ‘Through the Ages’ topic, Year 3 pupils shared their detailed instructions on how to make an axe – and the staff rose to the challenge! With perseverance and plenty of laughter, the staff successfully Followed the children’s guidance to create their own axes. A truly creative (and memorable!) learning moment.

Year 4 – River Making

Year 4 got crafty this week as they created their very own rivers. The children used fantastic geographical vocabulary to explain the different features of a river, which hugely impressed our geography subject lead, Miss Blencowe. Their brilliant rivers are now proudly on display in the school foyer – do take a look if you’re visiting, and please ask your children to tell you all about what they learned!

Pupil Premium and Free School Meals

This week, a letter has been sent home to Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 regarding Pupil Premium and Free School Meals. Letters will also be sent to Years 4–6 shortly.

At Stoke, we want every child to have the best opportunities to learn, grow and succeed. One way we can make this possible is through Pupil Premium funding – extra money that the school receives when families register for free school meals.

This additional funding helps us to:

· Provide extra learning resources and educational opportunities

· Offer academic support where needed

· Enrich the school environment and boost children’s wellbeing

Even if your child prefers packed lunches, registering is still important, because it means the school receives funding that directly benefits your child and others.

Who can get free school meals?

Your child may be eligible if you receive:

· Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

· Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

· The guaranteed element of Pension Credit

· Child Tax Credit (as long as you are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income below £16,190)

· Universal Credit, provided your household’s annual net earned income is below £7,400 (around £616.67 per month)

Applying is simple and confidential. You can apply online at: https://Applying is simple and confidential. You can apply online at: https://www.coventry.gov.uk/benefits-1/free-school-meals/3 or pop into the office for a form.or pop into the office for a form.
