  • Head Teacher Update

    Mon 20 Sep 2021

We have had another great week in school.  The children are fully immersed in their transition topics and working hard across school.

A big challenge for our children is developing the skills to share their learning and thinking with a level of detail, both during and after the lesson.  Staff across school will ask the children to explain, justify or describe as we all support our children in how they talk about their learning.  You can support this at home by asking questions and probing more deeply when your children do talk to you about their lessons.  We do fully understand that some children will however just say we played!  Keep trying though.

Day by day the children are earning more and more Smileys which, once they have 10, they can swap for a House token to go in the school Token Machine.  It is great hearing the children share their successes when they are doing this.

This week Mr Bennett and Mrs Haines have been out and about in school looking at maths and reading lessons.  This was a great opportunity to see how the first days of term have supported your children back into their lessons.  We are very focussed on settling all our children back into normal learning systems so that we can work rapidly to fill any gaps and challenges that the pandemic has created.

We hold our Achievements Assembly every Monday out on the field.  This way we can be together as a whole school, as we celebrate our brilliant children.  One child from each House then brings home the “Star of the Week” trophy to share with you for the rest of the week.

Attendance is being monitored closely and each week the House Attendance trophy is being shared.  Belgrade won it convincingly in week 1.  Please remember every day at school counts for your children.  Arriving on time and being ready to learn is vital to your child being successful.

Don’t forget next week we have our Harvest Festival, 10am on Thursday 30th September.  Please come and join us for songs and poems.  We will also be offering a drink and biscuit.  Following the assembly we are working on a plan to share with you the work your children have been focussed on, respecting the Covid rules and systems we have in place.  More information to follow.

Thank you for your support so far this term.

  • Website Reminder

    Mon 20 Sep 2021

We are in the process of improving the website and the information it contains.  A key part of our website is the ability to use Google Translate on all word documents.  If you would prefer to read a document in your own language, please scroll down to the bottom of the page you are on and use the drop down language tab to select your preferred language.

We hope this helps you all stay better informed of what is going on at Stoke.

  • Welcome Back

    Fri 10 Sep 2021

Week 1 and what a week it has been!  We are so pleased with the way our children have returned to school.  The work they started in Transition Week, last July, has enabled everyone to kick start this term off.  Across school we have seen children immersed in Super Heroes, Pirates, exploring the Weird and Wonderful World, Myths and Legends, Magic and Unexplained Mysteries.

We have also welcomed all our new Reception children.  They have started the term with so much confidence and energy, we cannot wait to see what they can achieve this year.

We appreciate that returning to more normal aspects of school may have been daunting for you with all the aspects of the pandemic we have coped with.  In school we are delighted with the respect everyone has for each other and the way we are all working with the new rules designed to keep us safe.

We are working hard over the next week to re establish our Breakfast Club for you. We will also be writing to with a variety of after school club opportunities.  These will change each half term but hopefully give our children new experiences beyond the curriculum we teach.

Please put 30th September in your diary for our Harvest Festival.  This will be a chance to celebrate Harvest with songs and poems.  We will also be offering tea and biscuits for you to enjoy with your children and a chance to find out more about the work your children have been completing in these first weeks.
