Hey guys, Mr Bennett here.
Another week gone and here we are, in our 8th week away from school. Last week, I wrote how wonderful it was to speak to most of you and to hear your voices. I said I was worried that most of you were not accessing the school website and therefore weren’t reading these messages or doing the work that I am setting. So, I hope that this past week you have been catching up on my messages and doing some of that learning:
In the early days, when we didn’t know how long we would be away from school, my expectation was for you to do your home learning book and to read. Now that we are 8 weeks into this, you really do need to keep your brain active to make returning to school easier. Many of you said that you were bored, so, every day, I would really like you to be reading, practising your spellings, practising your times tables, doing some sort of writing task, getting exercise, doing the weekly project and learning life skills. That may sound a lot but spellings and times tables are only 10-15 minutes each. There’s plenty of time in the day to work through the other tasks even if you give just 30 minutes to each of them.
This week, the home learning is based around Rainforests. If that doesn’t appeal to you, and you haven’t done the previous ones, you could do one of them instead, they were based around Under the Sea and Sport. As always, you can find all of the Home Learning in the ‘Home Learning Links & Ideas’ section.
Last Friday was V.E Day (Victory in Europe Day). You will learn all about WW2 (World War 2) in Year 6, but this is an excellent time to learn about it now. You may not realise, but you are living through history right now in 2020. This worldwide Coronavirus is history in the making and the 75th Anniversary of the VE Day celebrations are once in a lifetime. Relish this opportunity to be part of history. You may want to keep a diary of what you have been up to. There is a time capsule in the Home Learning Links & Ideas section that would help with this. The school website has been updated with VE celebration activities. This link will take you there…https://www.stoke.coventry.sch.uk/special-celebrations/
You might choose to do some of those activities this week; talk to your family, read up about it on the internet and learn about this event. WW2 affected the world, much like this coronavirus is affecting the world. So hopefully you may be understanding just how much something can affect your life even if you aren’t directly part of it. Why not start with this video to learn more about VE Day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tYAK-PsqDk
Remember, whatever learning you get up to, you can always send a photo of yourself and/or your work to the school Facebook page. I’d love to see it.
Also, even though I’m not setting work on PurpleMash, most of you have your logins. There are plenty of things you can do on there and you can always email me through 2Email on PurpleMash.
Have a great week. Take care.
Make your move and say Yes!
