Dear Parent or Guardian,

It is with the greatest sadness that I am writing to inform you that our Deputy Headteacher, Richard Davies a very dear friend, colleague and gifted and dedicated teacher, died suddenly of a heart attack, yesterday.

Staff were given the news at the end of the school day yesterday and they were, understandably, shocked and distraught.

We have broken the news to the children late this afternoon and would now like your assistance in helping your child to process this information and to provide comfort and support. We recognise that there may be some difficult conversations or questions but feel it is very important that these can take place within the bosom of the family.

We will endeavour to prepare staff so that they are able to answer children’s questions and provide support and guidance when they return to school on Monday. Additionally, we have requested the help and support of counsellors for all affected by this news at this difficult time. If you feel your child would benefit from group/individual counselling please let the Family Support Worker know via the school office.

Thank you for your support and understanding at this sad time. Mr Davies will be greatly missed by all children and staff at Stoke Primary School. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this sad time.

Yours sincerely

Ann Marrs Steve Quarterman
